Depew Gillen Rathbun & McInteer, LC announces that Kimberly a. Green, practicing in the areas of estate planning and probate, civil litigation and business law, has become a member of the firm. Born and raised in Hutchinson, Green has worked at the firm for five years as an associate.

The City of Dodge City announced that Jan Stevens, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, has been appointed to serve on the Council on Travel and Tourism for the State of Kansas.

The mission of the Kansas Travel & Tourism Division of the Department of Commerce is to promote and encourage the traveling public to visit and travel within Kansas and to generate and facilitate tourism and travel-related spending throughout the state by promoting recreational, historic, cultural and natural attractions.

Stevens has worked for the city in the capacity of CVB director since September 2006. Stevens is well qualified for this position, as she is currently a regional representative on the board of directors of the Kansas Travel Industry Association, is a member of the nomination committee for the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame, has earned the Kansas Destination Specialist designation from the Travel Industry Association of Kansas, and serves on several local boards and committees.

Jay Burns, Reno County noxious weed director, received the Public Relations Award during the 72nd Annual Weed Director’s Conference March 1 through 4 in great Bend.

The County Weed Director’s Association of Kansas gives out the award annually to the county noxious weed director who earns the most points in the area of public relations. Points are earned by participating in farm shows, the State Fair Booth, contributing information to local media sources, assisting in grower meetings and test plots. mr. Burns received a clock plaque and handheld GPS for his efforts.

TECH held its annual staff service awards dinner at the Downtown Sampler Restaurant to honor 32 staff members for their years of service.

The Hutchinson Correctional Facility announced two promotions.

Elizabeth Aragon was promoted to the position of Corrections Officer II, effective March 21. Aragon started with the facility in June 2007, as a corrections officer, and is a member of the Special Operations Response Team.

Bill Weimer was promoted to the position of Facility Maintenance Supervisor (Draftsman), effective March 7. Since beginning his career with the facility in August 2006, Weimer has worked as a corrections officer as well as a supervisor for Keyes Manufacturing. he is a graduate of Hutchinson High School and has a Fire Science degree from Hutchinson Community College.

Walt Tritsch, Hutchinson, is the new president of the Reno County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Tritsch, a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, succeeds Roger Johnson, Hutchinson.

Other officers are Katie Reynolds, vice president; Terry Simpson, financial director; Jess Hensel, records director; Cheryl Jerome, congregational coordinator; Harley Phillips, youth director; and Connie Harris, publicity chairperson. All are of Hutchinson.

Glenn Carlton of Hutchinson has been named Monthly Outstanding Salesman by American Family Insurance. he received the honor for outstanding sales of American Family insurance products during the month of February.

Carlton has been an agent for American Family since February 1975. his office is at 610 N. Main in Hutchinson.

Mid Kansas Cooperative Association, Moundridge, has named Kathy Neufeld as controller. in her role, Neufeld will oversee MKC’s agronomy billing and supervise the accounting department.

Neufeld is a native of Moundridge and has an extensive background in accounting. Most recently she served as the director of finance and operations for J.D. Enterprises of Kansas, Inc. she has also served as the credit and insurance manager for NCRA. Neufeld graduated magna cum laude from McPherson College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Accounting Degree.

Jay R. Hsu, MD MBA (Cardiovascular Disease) recently achieved board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty in cardiovascular disease. Dr. Hsu is currently board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

His interests include, but are not limited to, dyslipidemia, hypertension, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, cardiac imaging/echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, heart failure and diagnostic cardiac catheterization. he joined Wichita Clinic in 2009 and currently sees patients at Wichita Clinic in Wichita and Wichita Clinic Bethel-Newton, 720 Medical Center Drive, Newton. A longtime Central Kansas Medical Center employee started as a nurse’s aide, transferred to the cardiopulmonary department and now is a registered sleep technologist.

Megan Donecker, who cares for patients in CKMC’s Sleep/Wake Disorders Center, recently earned her certification as a registered polysomnographic technologist. Polysomnography refers to the study of sleep.

During her time in the cardiopulmonary department, Donecker assisted in respiratory therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, treadmill tests, electrocardiograms and electroencephalograms. After transferring to the sleep center and completing her initial education, Donecker took a registry prep course at the Alabama School of Sleep Medicine and Technology in Birmingham. she then passed the board exams.

The sleep center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Steven Ronsick is the medical director.

Dillon Stores Division has promoted Jeremy Maples to the position of Division Expense/Sanitation/Sustainability Manager for Dillons.

Maples began his career with Dillons in 1996 as a combo clerk in Wichita. in 2003, Maples was promoted to customer service manager. he later completed the MD-1 program and was promoted to assistant store manager in May of 2006. Most recently, Maples has been the Zone 5 shrink coordinator.

Dr. Marlow Ediger, professor emeritus, has just published a manuscript titled “Seven Criteria for an Effective Classroom Environment,” in the College Student Journal. he points out what can be done to up achievement by providing a learner-centered atmosphere in teaching and learning situations.

Dr. Ediger supervised university student teachers for more then 30 years in the public schools. as professor emeritus, he writes on diverse topics in education and resides in North Newton.
